WA: East Timorese refugees head back home from WA
A charter plane carrying hundreds of East Timorese refugees has left Perth for Dili.
The 220 refugees are returning to their homeland after seeking sanctuary in a temporary
safe haven at the Leeuwin Barracks in Fremantle.
Another 140 refugees staying at the barracks will return home tomorrow.
Only a handful of refugees needing medical treatment, and their families, will be allowed
to stay in Perth.
Immigration Minister PHILIP RUDDOCK says Australia has done more than any other country
to help East Timor.
He says it's time the refugees return to their homeland to start rebuilding their lives.
