Fed: Minister's office confirmed children treated for sewn lips

MELBOURNE, Jan 21 AAP - Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock's office today said fourchildren had been treated after having their lips sewn up as part of a hunger strike atthe Woomera detention centre.

A spokesman for Mr Ruddock said the four children were taken to the detention centre'smedical unit around 11pm (CDT) on Saturday night. No baby was involved, as claimed earlierby a refugee advocate.

One of the four children was able to be treated in the medical unit while the otherthree were taken to the Woomera hospital.
