FED: Committee to examine excess of tax file numbers

A parliamentary committee will this week examine the issue of identity fraud after
an audit office report found there are 3.2 million more tax file numbers than Australians.

Chairman of the House of Representatives standing committee on economics, DAVID HAWKER,
says it will examine identity fraud and the effectivness of the system at Thursday's hearing
in Sydney.

Mr HAWKER says various banking bodies will give evidence to the inquiry, as will the
