(Full text of a statement. Contact details below.)

SINGAPORE, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- EdgeMatrix, a multichannel technology company, has today launched Xgate, a modular multichannel communications software that supports the multichannel communication environment of today and tomorrow; from SMS, ICQ, to the mobile Internet.

Xgate replaces WAPgate, a predecessor product launched in early 2000 to international recognition. Since May, EdgeMatrix embarked on a series of bundling announcements in Asia with key industry players including Sun Microsystems and Sun Wah Linux. WAPgate was also used on a first-mover project to mobile-enable China's securities trading industry.

In addition to enabling WAP connectivity, Xgate also supports Web, STK, SMS, Email, Fax and ICQ. It is modular, offering businesses flexibility to purchase and implement only the communication channels that they are currently addressing, and to add additional communication modules later.

Brian Tiong, Director of Business Development, said: "We have come across companies that were not fully ready to deploy WAP and would prefer to start their wireless initiatives with simple messaging, due to a limited base of WAP-enabled customers or a slower IT rollout. Xgate provides the full-scalable choice for the channel functionality of companies, now and in the future."

Xgate comes in three configurations. Xgate WAP enables mobile communication via WAP. Xgate Messenger enables communication via SMS, ICQ, Email, Web, and Pagers. Lastly, Xgate Multichannel enables multichannel communication, combining Xgate WAP and Xgate Messenger.

EdgeMatrix emphasized that WAP remains an important component of a total communications strategy.

"There are exaggerations that WAP is dying because of upcoming GPRS and 3G," said Angus Wong, Director of Marketing. "To say that is like saying HTML or HTTP is dying because ADSL and cable broadband is coming. Better modems and more bandwidth will improve the Internet experience. Similarly, GPRS and 3G are technologies that would realize the full potential of WAP.

"The adoption rate of WAP might be low now. The Internet era started out that way too. The market needs to be educated about WAP. WAP itself is not dying, but hopefully the misconceptions about WAP are."

Xgate is immediately available for direct purchase from EdgeMatrix or from EdgeMatrix's professional services implementation partners and distributors around the world.
